Korn, Matthias (2025): Ein Revival des linearen Dekodierens – jetzt mit elektronischer Unterstützung. Eine Möglichkeit der Unterstützung sprachlich schwächerer Schülerinnen und Schüler. Ars docendi, 24, settembre 2025.
‚Linear decoding‘ is a text comprehension system developed in the 1970s by German language teaching expert Glücklich. It was widely praised as a translation method by classical language teaching experts in the 1980s, despite various shortcomings, some of them significant, which led to its eventual demise. However, a revival after almost fifty years makes perfect sense if one concentrates on the essential specifics and links it to the easy-to-use electronic school dictionary ‚Navigium', which is not only a dictionary but also provides information on word forms. In this combination, it is possible to support students with weaker language skills – under teacher guidance and, after an instruction phase, also with some, but not complete, independence. The proposal by Matthias Korn should be understood as a temporary measure for remedial, supplementary, support or extra tuition. It is therefore primarily aimed at compensating for deficits. This should also be the goal of subject-specific teaching methods.
