Oswald (University of Graz) emphatically points to language comparison as a central task of Latin teaching in particular. However, neither the ability to transfer nor the recognition of parallelisms is automatic for students. In order for parallelisms to be consciously perceived as an aid at all, they have to be made systematically explicit in lessons, target-oriented learning strategies have to be worked out and specifically practised.
